Gene Information

mouse ... Tcp1(21454)

General description

Tcp1 (t-complex protein ) is a chaperonin and a ATPase complex that encodes a chaperonin, localized to the cytosol.

Immunogen

Purified recombinant mouse TCP1 alpha construct encoding the C-terminal half of the 1.8 kb full-length Tcp 1b gene expressed in E. coli. Detects the COOH group.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Tcp1 (t-complex protein) is involved in protein folding mechanism of essential proteins such as actins, tubulin, cyclin E, α-transducin and von Hippel Lindau protein. Tcp1 participates in synthesis of proteins that make up the cytoskeleton and thus involved in cellular processes such as chromosome segregation, cell migration, and intracellular transport. Increased TCP1 gene expression is observed in cancer and upregulation elevates with the disease progression.

While some evidence suggests an essential role for the chaperonin containing t-complex protein 1 (CCT) in ciliogenesis, this function remains poorly understood mechanistically. We used transgenic mice, previously generated in our lab, and characterized by a genetically-induced suppression of CCT
