Application

Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid tripotassium salt dihydrate has been used to coat conical tubes to collect trunk blood for tissue and plasma samples. It has also been used in tubes to collect blood to perform mixed meal test (MMT).
Used to eliminate inhibition of enzyme catalyzed reactions due to traces of heavy metals

Biochem/physiol Actions

Ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) chelates divalent cations like calcium and magnesium in whole blood. It is usually available as a salt, complexed with either potassium or sodium. It is mostly used during hematological tests of the blood sample. It helps to maintain the cellular morphology to prepare blood smears for microscopic analysis. EDTA is abundantly used in RNA purification methods.
