General description

Copper(II) sulfate is an inorganic Lewis acid commonly used to promote acid?catalyzed organic reactions. It is used as a reagent for the synthesis of copper carbenoids. It can also act as an effective redox catalyst in combination with other mixed oxidizing systems.

Application

Copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate can be used to prepare:
  • Polydopamine-derived flower-like copper phosphate crystal microstructures with a large surface area.
  • Graphene oxide-enzyme based flower-like hybrid nanocomposite materials applicable in wastewater treatment.

We developed a simple but efficient method to synthesize protein-inorganic hybrid nanostructures with a flower-like shape (nanoflowers), which relies on sonication to facilitate the synthesis of the nanoflowers. With this technique, we synthesized nanoflowers containing laccase as a model protein

Although Cu complexes have been investigated as anticancer agents, there has been no description of Cu itself as a cancer killing agent. A stealth liposomal Cu formulation (LpCu) was studied in vitro and in vivo. LpCu was evaluated in prostate
