Gene Information

General description

Cell death activator CIDE-A (UniProt: O60543; also known as Cell death-inducing DFFA-like effector A) is encoded by the CIDEA gene (Gene ID: 1149) in human. Three members of the CIDE family of proteins have been described in human CIDE-A, CIDE-B, and CIDE-C. They all contain a common N-terminal CIDE-N domain and a C-terminal CIDE-C domain. CIDE-A is a brown fat-associated protein that has been implicated in lipid and energy metabolism. Its expression has been reported in colon and normal breast tissue. It binds to lipid droplets and regulates their enlargement, thereby restricting lipolysis and favoring storage. It is shown to be enriched at lipid droplet contact sites and at focal contact sites between lipid droplets where it promotes directional net neutral lipid transfer from the smaller to larger lipid droplets. It is reported to strongly promote triglyceride accumulation even in cell types that do not normally store large amounts of neutral lipid. Its expression levels in adipose tissue have been correlated with insulin sensitivity, which could be related to enhanced storage of triglyceride resulting in reduced levels of fatty acid levels in the circulation. CIDE-A is also reported to acts as a CCAAT Enhancer Binding Protein b (CEBPB) coactivator in mammary epithelial cells and controls the expression of CEBPB downstream target genes, such as ID2, IGF1, PRLR, SOCS1, SOCS3, XDH. Higher expression of CIDE-A has been reported in colorectal tumors compared to normal colonic mucosa. (Ref.: Alnabulsi, A., et al. (2019). Int. J. Cancer. 145(4);1138-1147; Puri, V., et al. (2008). Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA. 105(22); 7833-7838).

Specificity

Clone V62P1E3 B10 is a mouse monoclonal antibody that detects human Cell death activator CIDE-A. It targets an epitope within 9 amino acids from the C-terminal region.

Immunogen

Ovalbumin-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to 9 amino acids from the C-terminal region of human CIDE-A.

Application

Quality Control Testing

Evaluated by Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin) in human colon cancer tissue sections.

Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin) Analysis: A 1:50 dilution of this antibody detected CIDE-A in human colon cancer tissue sections.

Tested Applications
