General description

Recommended working concentration: 100 µg/ml.
An aminoglycoside antibiotic effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. Inhibitor of protein biosynthesis that acts on the 30S ribosome, causing misreading of the genetic code. May cause renal damage and ototoxicity.
An aminoglycoside antibiotic effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. Inhibitor of protein biosynthesis that acts on the 70S ribosome, causing misreading of the genetic code. May cause renal damage and ototoxicity. Useful for the selection of kanamycin resistant plasmids in E. coli. Tested and found to be negative for cytotoxicity against HeLa cells. Contains more than 98% kanamycin A.
Contains >98% kanamycin A. Potency: ≥750 µg/mg

Biochem/physiol Actions

Primary Target
protein biosynthesis that acts on the 30S ribosome

Warning

Toxicity: Carcinogenic / Teratogenic (D)

Reconstitution

Following reconstitution, sterilize by filtration through a 0.22 µm pore-size filter, aliquot and freeze (-20°C). Stock solutions are stable for up to 1 year at -20°C.
