General description

Nestin/NES belongs to the intermediate filament (IF) protein family. Its expression is found in immature neuroepithelial and progenitor cell types. This 240 kDa protein contains the shortest head domain (N-terminus) and a long tail domain (C-terminus). Nestin is mapped to human chromosome 1q23.1.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the C- terminus of mouse nestin, conjugated to KLH. The sequence is identical in rat nestin.

Application

Anti-Nestin (C-terminal) antibody has been used in immunostaining.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Nestin/NES plays a major role in the modulation of assembly and disassembly of intermediate filaments, which in turn help in the remodeling of the cell along with other structural proteins.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
