General description

Tat-interacting protein 30 (TIP30), also called CC3/ HIV-1 tat interactive protein 2 (HTATIP2), is a putative tumor suppressor. It is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 11p15.1. TIP30 is primarily localized in cytoplasm and it belongs to short-chain dehydrogenases/reductase (SDR) family. The encoded protein is extensively expressed in various human tissues, such as the heart, brain, lung, kidney and pancreas.

Immunogen

Peptide with sequence AETEALSKLREDFR-C from the N Terminus of the protein sequence according to NP_006401.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Tat-interacting protein 30 (TIP30) has an ability to promote apoptosis and suppress metastasis and angiogenesis. It is also implicated in regulation of DNA repair and tumor cell metabolism. Down-regulated expression of the gene is associated with the development of various cancers, including melanoma, breast cancer, neuroblastoma, glioblastoma, colon cancer, lung cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma. Elevated expression of the gene in glioma cells inhibits tumor proliferation, metastasis and migration. Thus, TIP30 can be considered as a potent target for treating glioma patients.

The HIV Tat-interacting protein (TIP30), also called CC3 or HTIP2, is encoded by Tip30, a putative tumor-suppressor gene located on human chromosome 11p15.1. In this study, we investigated the role of TIP30 in the progression and metastasis of lung cancer.
