General description
Apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) is the chief protein component of high density lipoproteins (HDL) and a major determinant of HDL structure, composition, and stability. It is an exchangeable apolipoprotein and plays pivotal role in the metabolism of cholesterol.
Application
Apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) was used for protecting the heart against vascular disease, it also protects other vascular beds and organs. It was protective against atherosclerosis through its ability to intervene in reverse cholesterol transport.
Biochem/physiol Actions
High-density lipoproteins are antiatherogenic and cardioprotective by facilitating reverse cholesterol transport (RCT). Some strategies for elevating apolipoprotein A-I levels are studied as therapies for atherosclerosis.
Preparation Note
lyophilized from 0.01 M ammonium hydrogen carbonate
Other Notes
A principal protein component of high-density lipoproteins. Protein - lipid interactions

Apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) is the major protein component of high density lipoproteins (HDL) and plays a central role in cholesterol metabolism. The lipid-free/lipid-poor form of apoA-I is the preferred substrate for the ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1). The interaction of

The relationship between high-density lipoprotein and pulmonary function is unclear. To determine mechanistic relationships we investigated the effects of genetic deletion of apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) on plasma lipids, paraoxonase (PON1), pro-inflammatory HDL (p-HDL), vasodilatation, airway hyperresponsiveness and pulmonary oxidative stress

Haptoglobin is a plasma protein that scavenges haemoglobin during haemolysis. Phospholipid Transfer Protein (PLTP) transfers lipids from Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL) to High Density Lipoproteins (HDL). PLTP is involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis which causes coronary artery disease, the
