General description

Aggrecan Core Protein (UniProt: A0A5F5XE37; also known as Anti-Chondroitin Sulfate Proteoglycan core protein, CSPG1) is encoded by the ACAN gene (Gene ID: 101084542) in cat. Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs) are a family of large extracellular matrix molecules, composed of a central core protein to which a varying number of glycosaminoglycan (GAG) side chains are attached. They are widely expressed in the mammalian central nervous system. CSPG1 consists of a protein core and a chondroitin sulfate side chain. CSPG1 lacks a transmembrane domain and the entire molecule is extracellular and, therefore, is considered a constituent of brain extracellular matrix. It is synthesized with a signal peptide (aa 1-16, which is subsequently cleaved off to generate the mature form. CSPG1 plays a role in neural development, plasticity, and post-injury response. CSPGs are involved in cell adhesion, cell growth, receptor binding, and cell migration. They are reported to inhibit axon regeneration after spinal cord injury and contribute to glial scar formation, which blocks new axons from growing into the injury site. During development CSPGs are reported to act as guidance cues for developing growth cones. In the adult, they stabilize synaptic connections and prevent aberrant axonal sprouting. Clone Cat-315 is shown to recognize a chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan (CSPG) expressed on the surface of subsets of neurons in many areas of the mammalian CNS. Specificity

Clone Cat-315 is a mouse monoclonal antibody that detects Aggrecan core protein (CSPG1). It detects an epitope on the extracellular region.

Immunogen

Feline brain proteoglycans.
