Application

Folate binding protein can be used in radioligand binding assays of serum folate. The folate receptor has been used in studies as a therapeutic target in a variety of cancers.
Folate binding protein from bovine milk has been used in folate binding studies using surface plasmon resonance and in the uptake studies in kidney proximal tubule cells.
Useful for radioligand binding assays of serum folate. May also bind N-methyltetrahydrofolic acid and other folate analogues.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Folate-binding protein (FBP) is present as a cell receptor and binds to folate in equimolar ratio. It is involved in the transport of folate and improves their bioavailability.
