Pymetrozin is a synthetic herbicide belonging to the pyridine azomethrin family, used to control aphids, plant hoppers, and whiteflies in fruits, vegetables, flowers, and potatoes. Pymetrozin shows an immediate inhibition of feeding in aphids, causing death by starvation.

Pymetrozin has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Programme for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.

Pymetrozin is not approved for use in European Union as per Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009. Maximum residue levels (MRLs) for Pymetrozin have been set according to Regulation (EU) No 2021/155 from 0.01 to 0.1 mg/kg for various products of plant and animal origin.

Application

The certified reference material (CRM) is intended to be used as a calibrant for chromatography and other analytical techniques. The CRM may also find following uses:
  • To evaluate tetradifon, deltametrin, and pymetrozin pesticide residues on cucumbers by gas chromatography
  • To investigate pymetrozin residues in cucumber under field conditions
  • To assess the pesticide residues in strawberries subjected to various pesticide treatment regimes
  • To evaluate the side effects of hexaflumuron, pymetrozin, and spirodiclofen and some plant extracts on life table parameters of Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens) under controlled conditions
  • To evaluate different life table parameters as an indicator of the sub-lethal effects of four chemical pesticides (pymetrozin, diazinon, imidacloprid, and abamectin) and Calotropis procera extract on Bemisia tabaci
