General description
The accurate diameter of 1 μm is determined by methods described by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, USA), such as:
- Transmission electron microscopy
- Scanning electron microscopy
- Optical microscopy
- COULTER COUNTER particle size analyzer with HDF system.
- The measuring instruments are calibrated using standards obtained from the Community Bureau of Reference (BCR, Belgium: Standards RM 165, 166 or 167) and from the NIST (SRM 1690, 1691 or 1692). This analytical standard product is made up of superparamagnetic polystyrene particles.
