General description

Neurogenin 3 (NEUROG3) is also termed as Ngn3. This protein belongs to the subfamily of basic-helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors. It is located on human chromosome 10q.
Neurogenin-3 (NEUROG3) is expressed in endocrine progenitor cells and is required for endocrine cell development in the pancreas and intestine (Wang et al., 2006 [PubMed 16855267]). It belongs to a family of basic helix-loop-helix transcription factors involved in the determination of neural precursor cells in the neuroectoderm (Gradwohl et al., 2000 [PubMed 10677506]).[supplied by OMIM]

Immunogen

NEUROG3 (NP_066279, 1 a.a. ~ 101 a.a) partial recombinant protein with GST tag. MW of the GST tag alone is 26 KDa.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Neurogenin 3 (NEUROG3) is required for all intestinal enteroendocrine cells. It participates in the differentiation of endocrine pancreas. This protein is also essential to induce islet cell maturation and to maintain islet function.
