General description

Our 20 nm silver nanoparticles are ideal for biosensing and fluorescent imaging applications. These spherical particles are stabilized in an aqueous citrate buffer to prevent aggregation. Silver nanoparticles efficiently absorb and scatter light due to the conduction electrons on their surface undergoing collective oscillations, known as surface plasmon resonance (SPR), when excited by specific wavelengths. Unlike gold nanoparticles, which absorb at longerwavelengths (500+ nm), silver nanoparticles absorb at shorter wavelengths(400-450 nm). At a 20 nm size, our nanoparticles have a peak absorptionwavelength (λ) of 400 nm and a narrow full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 66nm, thanks to their high monodispersity. These optoelectronic properties, combined with their high surface area, make them effective for detecting biomolecules, pathogens, and environmental contaminants.

Application

  • Surface-enhanced Raman analysis of sulfa drugs on colloidal silver dispersion.: This research explores the application of colloidal silver dispersion for the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) analysis of sulfa drugs. The study demonstrates the potential of silver nanoparticles in enhancing Raman signals, making it a valuable technique for detecting and analyzing pharmaceuticals at low concentrations (Sutherland et al., 1990).

A paper-based visual fluorescence immunoassay is presented for the detection of matrix metalloproteinase-7 (MMP7) that is related to renal cancer. The method is based on the distance-dependent fluorescence quenching of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) on a nitrocellulose membrane by Ag+ following a sandwich-type immunoreaction
