Metaproterenol hemisulfate salt has been used:

• as a β2-adrenoceptor agonist to study its effects on adenylyl cyclase stimulation in red blood cell deformability
• as an adrenergic agonist to study its effects on the stereoselective cell uptake by organic cation transporters in human embryonic kidney cell lines
• as a bronchodilator to study its effects on the activation of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR)
