Gene Information

General description

Research area: CELL SIGNALING

AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a heterotrimer protein kinase consisting of a α catalytic subunit, and non-catalytic β and γ subunits.

Application

AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) has been used to access the binding kinetics of thalidezine to recombinant active human AMPK using Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI) binding assay.

Biochem/physiol Actions

AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is an important energy-sensing enzyme that monitors cellular energy status. In response to cellular metabolic stresses, AMPK is activated and phosphorylates and inactivates acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR), key enzymes involved in regulating biosynthesis of fatty acid and cholesterol.

Physical form

Supplied in 50mM NaPhosphate pH 7.0, 300 mM NaCl, 150 mM imidazole, 0.1mM PMSF, 0.2 mM DTT, 25% glycerol.

Obesity is an epidemic in Western society, and causes rapidly accelerating rates of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The evolutionarily conserved serine/threonine kinase, AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), functions as a 'fuel gauge' to monitor cellular energy status. We investigated
