Allgemeine Beschreibung

5α,6β-dihydroxycholestanol is a structural derivative of cholesterol and is an abundant oxysterols. 5α,6β-dihydroxycholestanol-d7 is a deuterated form of 5α,6β-dihydroxycholestanol.

Anwendung

5α,6β-dihydroxycholestanol-d7 has been used as an analyte in liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS) analysis based multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) studies and as an internal standard in tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) for analysis of plasma samples.

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

5α,6β-dihydroxycholestanol (5α,6β-diOH-Chol) or cholestane-3β,5α,6β-triol (C-triol) levels are elevated along with 7-ketocholesterol in Niemann-Pick type C (NP-C) disease and is a key biomarkers for detection. It has ,neuroprotective functionality and may elicit protection against neuronal injury during ischemia.
