General description

Lyso-platelet activating factor (lyso-PAF) is the alkyl homolog of lysophosphatidylcholine.

Application

Lyso PAF (from Heart PC) (1-alkyl-2-hydroxy-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) has been used to study its inhibitory actions on alkyl-PAF-induced death in Swiss albino mice. It may be used as an acyl acceptor in the determination of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) acyltransferase (LPAAT) activity.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Lyso-platelet activating factor (lyso-PAF) can stimulate inflammation in a murine model of pleurisy. It acts as a stable metabolite and a precursor of PAF. The turnover of lyso-PAF to PAF is expected to induce continued inflammation in target organs or tissues.

Lysophosphatidylcholine is an abundant component of plasma and oxidized LDL that displays several biological activities, some of which may occur through the platelet-activating factor (PAF) receptor. We find that commercial lysophosphatidylcholine, its alkyl homolog (lyso-PAF), and PAF all induce inflammation

The conversion of lyso-platelet activating factor (lyso-PAF) to PAF in cultured paranasal sinus mucosa obtained from normal human subjects was studied. The PAF concentration in the medium was determined after addition of lyso-PAF. PAF became detectable at 10 minutes after

Platelet-activating factor (PAF) is a potent inflammatory mediator that exerts its actions via the single PAF receptor (PAF-R). Cells that biosynthesize alkyl-PAF also make abundant amounts of the less potent PAF analogue acyl-PAF, which competes for PAF-R. Both PAF species

Lysophosphatidic acid (1-acyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphate (LPA)) is a phospholipid with diverse biological activities. The mediator serves as an intermediate in membrane phospholipid metabolism but is also produced in acute settings by activated platelets. LPA is converted to phosphatidic acid, itself a lipid
