General description

Chemical structure: tetracycline

Biochem/physiol Actions

Because it is excreted more slowly than tetracycline, it maintains effective blood levels for longer periods of time.
Demeclocycline hydrochloride is a tetracycline antibiotic derived from a strain of Streptomyces aureofaciens. DMC protects neurons from glutamate induced toxicity by suppressing calpain I and II activities.
Used to study mechanisms of bacterial protein synthesis inhibition at the level of the 30S subunit and aminoacy-tRNA A-site binding.

Bone remodeling and regeneration are dependent on resident stem/progenitor cells with the ability to replenish mature osteoblasts and repair the skeleton. Using lineage tracing approaches, we identified a population of Dmp1+ cells that reside within cortical bone and are distinct
