General description

BACTIDENT E. coli test strips are impregnated with 4-methylumbelliferyl-β-D-glucuronide (MUG), which is cleaved to form 4-methylumbelliferone in the presence of β-D-Glucuronidase. The light blue fluorescence upon excitation with long-wavelength UV light, indicates the presence of the enzyme. Tryptophanase activity is confirmed if the bacterial suspension turns red upon the addition of KOVACS’ reagent due to indole formation.
rapid identification kit for E. coli

Application

BACTIDENT E. coli is used for the bioburden testing in drinking water. This test allows for the rapid detection of coliform organisms (E. coli) by testing the bacterial culture for the presence of enzymes β-D-Glucuronidase and Tryptophanase.
