General description

Polar Lipid Extract is derived from the total lipid extract by precipitation with acetone followed by extraction of the acetone insoluble material with diethyl ether.
The Soy Extract Polar (SPE) comprises a mixture of phospholipids including phosphatidylcholine as a major component along with phosphatidylethanolamine phosphatidylinositol. It also has phosphatidic acid (along with other lipids each accounting to (6.9%). Soybean is the natural source of soy polar extract.

Application

Soy Extract Polar has been used:
  • as a component of wash and elution buffer for the purification of canonical transient receptor channels (TRPC) membrane protein
  • in the solubilization of ryanodine receptor channel protein
  • in the reconstitution of Ca2+-selective transient receptor potential vanilloid subfamily member 6 channel (TRPV6) on to nanodiscs

Biochem/physiol Actions

Soy Extract Polar (SPE) exists in hockey-puck-like structure and mimics real membranes. It is useful in the preparation of unilamellar liposomes and nanotube networks.

Data from earlier studies showed that minor structural changes at the surface of cytochrome c oxidase, in one of the proton-input pathways (the D pathway), result in dramatically decreased activity and a lower proton-pumping stoichiometry. To further investigate how changes
