General description

The distillate GC sampling adapter installed following a condenser or distillation column, provides on-the-fly composition measurements while the distillation is in progress. This is an important capability, since it allows the scientist to monitor the separation in terms of the most critical aspect: composition.

This is done in real time, without the need for cumbersome, expensive and often unreliable fraction collectors. In addition to controlling separations in the laboratory, this device is used with the composition-explicit or advanced distillation curve procedure. The adapter is suitable for atmospheric pressure distillations, as well as vacuum distillation.

How it Works:

The flow path of the distillate is focused to drop into a "hammock" that is positioned directly below the flow path. This hammock is an integral part of the adapter. The sampling port allows access to the hammock with a standard chromatographic syringe, through a septum. The port is equipped with a vacuum tight valve which allows operation at reduced pressures.

To sample the distillate, one simply positions the chromatographic syringe, preferably equipped with a blunt tipped needle, in the well of the hammock. It is a simple matter to withdraw samples as the distillation progresses. The sample can then be directly injected into the gas chromatograph or spectrometer, or injected into an autosampler vial for analysis later.

Order replacement sampling port septa 33310-U and septum inserter 33311.
