Neuroscience Multiplex Assays | MILLIPLEX® Assays
Researchers use neuroscience-related biomarkers to gain more insights into the nervous system. Neuroscience multiplex assays, such as MILLIPLEX® multiplex assays, provide a deeper understanding of the underlying processes of neurodegenerative diseases, neurological disorders, and neuropeptide/neurohormone signaling.
What Are Biomarkers of Neurological Disorders?
A biomarker of a neurological disorder is, by definition, differentially expressed between a normal subject’s nervous system and that of a subject bearing a neurological disorder. Traditionally, neuroscience biomarkers could only be detected after a subject already exhibits cognitive decline or other symptoms of disease. However, recently, sensitive assays have shown biomarkers to be present even in advance of other symptoms. Examples of neuroscience-related biomarkers are described in Table 1.
Neuroscience Multiplex Assays
No single biomarker has the power to give researchers a complete picture of nervous system functions such as perception, cognition, motor, and homeostatic control, or of disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Neuroscience multiplex assays, such as bead-based MILLIPLEX® neuroscience multiplex immunoassays, using trusted Luminex® xMAP® technology, enable a multivariate analysis of the processes that underlie neural development, homeostasis, and pathogenesis—all while conserving precious samples.
MILLIPLEX® multiplex assays enable you to simultaneously measure neuroscience-related biomarkers to gain a better picture of neurodegenerative diseases, neurological disorders, and neuropeptide/neurohormone signaling.
For example, MILLIPLEX® neuroscience assays have been used to:
- Detect Amyloid β 1-40 and 1-42 and total and phospho-Tau (Thr181) in Alzheimer’s disease research
- Dive deeper into Alzheimer’s disease research by combining multiplexing results with ultrasensitive immunoassays
- Understand the inflammatory response to stroke in the brain through mouse models
- Combine learnings from stroke and Alzheimer’s disease research to further understanding of mixed dementia
