General description

JWH-019 6-Hydroxyhexyl metabolite is a major urinary metabolite of JWH-019, a synthetic cannabinoid found in several blends of the herbal mixture Spice or K2. This biomarker is also referred to as the omega hydroxy metabolite of JWH-019 since the hydroxy group is located at the terminal position of the N-hexyl side chain.

Application

  • Advanced Imaging for Synthetic Cannabinoids: JWH-019 has been included in studies utilizing MALDI-MS^3 imaging techniques, which allow for precise spatial characterization of synthetic cannabinoids in biological samples such as single scalp hair. This approach is crucial for forensic toxicology, providing detailed insights into drug distribution and metabolism within tissues (Kernalléguen et al., 2018).

  • Metabolite Analysis in Forensic Science: The application of micellar electrokinetic chromatography combined with mass spectrometry for the determination of synthetic cannabinoids like JWH-019 highlights its role in the analytical detection of drug metabolites. This technique is instrumental for both legal and medical investigations, ensuring the accurate identification of synthetic cannabinoid compounds in various matrices (Švidrnoch et al., 2016).

  • Quantitative Detection in Serum: JWH-019 has been studied using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) methods for quantifying synthetic cannabinoids and their metabolites in serum. This method supports clinical and forensic analysis, providing essential data for toxicology reports and therapeutic monitoring (Dresen et al., 2011).
