Gene Information

General description

Galectins are a family of carbohydrate binding proteins. Galectin-7 was initially isolated from human keratinocytes as a novel member of S-lectin family that was responsive to retinoic acid but not detectable in epidermal tumors or squamous carcinomas. It is an early transcriptional target of the tumor suppressor P53 and inducible by UV radiation as well. Galectin-7 is also an enhancer of apoptosis, whereas galectin-1 induces tumorigenicity and resistance to apoptosis in several types of cancers. Recent research demonstrates that Galectin-7 acts as an adhesion molecule during implantation, and increased expression of Galectin-7 is associated with miscarriage, thus Galectin-7 is also being studied as a possible biomarker for miscarriage prediction.

Immunogen

KLH-conjugated beta-galactose binding region corresponding to human Galectin-7.

Application

Immunohistochemistry Analysis: A 1:1,000 dilution from a representative lot detected Galectin-7 in human skin and human larynx tissue.
