General description

FRIIS medium contains horse serum and swine serum that provides useable cholesterol and fatty acids. A color change of the medium to yellow or purple due to phenol red indicates the growth of mycoplasmas. Bacitracin inhibits the synthesis of the cell wall of the accompanying gram-positive bacteria.

Application

FRIIS Broth is suitable for the detection of non-avian mycoplasmas in pharmaceutical products, especially in bulk vaccines, cell banks, and virus cultures.
