Application

Potassium phosphate monobasic was used for separating tobacco protein by using aqueous two-phase extraction.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Potassium phosphate monobasic also referred to as monopotassium phosphate or potassium dihydrogen phosphate is a soluble salt of potassium that serves as a buffering agent. It enhances the solubility of calcium and phosphorus in amino acid plus dextrose solutions and hence assists in improving the mineral balance of parenterally fed low birth weight infants.

Preparation Note

Potassium phosphate monobasic dissolves in 4.5 (approx.) parts of water to yield a solution. It is practically insoluble in alcohol.

Tobacco has long been considered as a host to produce large quantity of high-valued recombinant proteins. However, dealing with large quantities of biomass is a challenge for downstream processing. Aqueous two-phase extraction (ATPE) has been widely used in purifying proteins
