Ações bioquímicas/fisiológicas

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ(PPAR-γ or PPARG) is a type II nuclear receptor encoded by the PPARG gene in humans. PPARs are ligand-activated transcription factors of the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily. PPARγ is expressed as two isoforms, PPARγ2 and PPARγ1. PPARγ2 is expressed at high levels in the adipose tissues, whereas PPARγ1 has a broader expression pattern. PPARγ2 in skeletal muscle can promote conversion of subcutaneous fat to brown fat formation leading to increased energy metabolisms and combating obesity. PPARγ mRNA is expressed in humans in spleen, bone marrow, liver, testis, skeletal muscle and brain, in addition to fat.

Brown adipose tissue (BAT) is specialized to dissipate energy as heat, therefore reducing fat deposition and counteracting obesity. Brown adipocytes arise from myoblastic progenitors during embryonic development by the action of transcription regulator PRDM16 binding to PPARγ, which promotes BAT-like

The three peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated transcription factors of the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily. They share a high degree of structural homology with all members of the superfamily, particularly in the DNA-binding domain and ligand- and cofactor-binding domain.
