It is an integral membrane protein and one of the members of the cadherin superfamily that mediate calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion.. The expression of Protocadherin-related 15 (PCDH15) is essential for normal function of cochlea and retina. Mutations in this gene result in hearing loss and Usher Syndrome Type IF (USH1F). PCDH15 is expressed in nasal NK/T-cell lymphomas.
