Gene Information

General description

The gene K2P4.1, also referred to as KCNK4 (potassium two pore domain channel subfamily K member 4), encodes a protein belonging to the subfamily of K2P (two pore domain K+ channel) channels called TRAAK (TWIK-related arachidonic acid-stimulated K+ channel). The TRAAK channels are expressed selectively in the nervous system. TRAAK channel contains two protomers, each with two distinct pore domains forming a two-fold symmetric potassium channel.

Specificity

The K2P4.1 antibody is directed against a highly conserved epitope in the intraracellular C-terminal region of the human K2P4.1 channel.

Immunogen

peptide NLAFIDESSDTQSERGC, corresponding to amino acid residues 343-359 of human K2P4.1.

Biochem/physiol Actions

The gene KCNK4 (potassium two pore domain channel subfamily K member 4) encodes a potassium channel that is mechanosensitive and is regulated by polyunsaturated fatty acids and temperature. The structure and chemical composition of the lipid bilayer has a profound effect on the functioning of this K+ channel. It is found to regulate the noxious input threshold in dorsal root ganglia neurons.

Physical form

Lyophilized powder from phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 1% BSA and 0.025% sodium azide.

Reconstitution

Reconstitute the lyophilized vial with 50 μL or 200 μL deionized water, depending on package size. Further dilutions should be made using a carrier protein, such as BSA (1-3%).
