General description

Ethyl glycollate is an ester. Microwave spectra of ethyl glycollate and its deuterated species has been reported.

Application

Ethyl glycollate is an important building block for the preparation of medicinal compounds and agrochemicals. It may be used:
  • as starting reagent in the synthesis of 2-ferrocenylfuran
  • as substrate during the polycondensation of α-hydroxy acids by enzymes and polyethylene glycol (PEG)-modified enzymes
  • in the synthesis of poly(PDL-GA) copolymers, via enzymatic catalysis
