Superspher® HPLC Columns
Introduction
Superspher® HPLC columns are designed to provide highly efficient separations. Both theoretical calculations and practical experience indicate that these traditional fully porous high-performance spherical silica carriers (Type A silica), characterized by a mean particle size of 4 μm, deliver a good balance of pressure to separation performance ratio. The theoretical plate count for Superspher® HPLC columns exceeds 100,000 N/m. This makes them suitable for sample mixtures requiring high peak capacity.
The Superspher® HPLC column packing material is offered in LiChroCART® cartridges as well as Hibar® RT columns. Both column hardwares are available in various lengths and internal diameters of 4 mm, 3 mm, and 2 mm. LiChroCART® cartridges with inner diameters of 4.6 mm, 4 mm, 3 mm, and 2 mm are suitable for use with the re-usable manu-CART® “4” cartridge holder. This allows the quick exchange of the column while the holder stays connected to the HPLC instrument as well as the direct integration of a guard cartridge.
Surface Modifications for Superspher® HPLC columns
The Superspher® packing material is available with various surface modifications, such as non-polar derivatives (RP-8, RP-8 endcapped, RP-18, RP-18 endcapped and RP-select B) and polar surface (Si 60).
Polar columns
- Superspher® Si 60: A versatile HPLC fully porous spherical silica sorbent (Type A) with a pore size of 60 Å suited to applications in normal phase chromatography and optional for hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC).
Non-Polar Bonding
- Superspher® 60 RP-8: A reliable and versatile fully porous spherical silica gel support (Type A) with a pore size of 60 Å, produced using traditional methods. It possesses less hydrophobic C-8 reversed phase characteristics, making it suitable for the separation of neutral, acidic, and weakly basic compounds.
- Superspher® 60 RP-8 endcapped: A dependable and versatile, traditionally manufactured spherical silica gel support with a pore size of 60 Å featuring less hydrophobic C-8 endcapped reversed phase characteristics, ideal for the separation of Amino Acids, Esters, and other neutral, acidic, and weakly basic compounds with too high retention on C18.
- Superspher® 100 RP-18: A dependable and adaptable fully porous spherical silica gel support, (Type A) with a pore size of 100 Å and C-18 reversed phase characteristics, ideal for the separation of neutral, acidic, and weakly basic compounds.
- Superspher® 100 RP-18 endcapped: A fully porous spherical silica gel support, (Type A) with a pore size of 100 Å with C-18 endcapped reversed phase properties, making it suitable for the separation of a very broad range of compounds including Aflatoxines, Aldehydes, Alkaloides, Antibiotics, Catecholamines, Esters, Lipides, Fatty acids, Flavonoides, Ketones, Nitrosamines, Nucleosides Nucleotides, PCB, small Peptides, hydrophobilc Pesticides, Phenols, Phthalates, Preservatives, Steroides, Sulfonamides, Sweeteners and Vitamins.
- Superspher® 60 RP-select B: A highly reproducible, fully porous spherical silica gel support, (Type A) with a pore size of 100 Å characterized by reversed phase properties and the hydrophobicity associated with a C-8 phase. This carrier is optimized for the separation of basic compounds but is also suitable for the determination of neutral and acidic compounds.
