Gene Information

human ... AKT1(207)

General description

Anti-AKT Antibody detects endogenous levels of total AKT protein.
AKT serine/threonine kinase 1 (AKT1), also called as v-akt murine thymoma viral oncogene homolog 1 or protein kinase B α (PKB-α), is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 14q32. It is highly expressed in liver, muscle and adipocytes. The encoded protein is a member of the AKT family, which is characterized with an amino-terminal pleckstrin homology (PH) domain, a short α-helical linker and a carboxyl-terminal kinase domain.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human Akt.

Immunogen Range: 90-139

Application

Anti-AKT antibody produced in rabbit has been used in Western Blotting.

Biochem/physiol Actions

AKT serine/threonine kinase 1 (AKT1) acts as a regulator of cell-survival and anti-apoptotic functions. This protein has a crucial role in tumorigenesis. Mutations in the gene are associated with the pathogenesis of prostate cancer (PC). Elevated expression of the gene has been observed in human gastric cancer. Aberrations in AKT1 signaling leads to the development of schizophrenia.

Studies of nesfatin-1 in glucose metabolism have become a topic of interest recently, however, the specific receptor for nesfatin-1 has not yet been identified. Some studies hinted at a connection between nesfatin-1 and the ghrelin receptor, growth hormone secretagogue receptor.
