Professor Gang Li

Research in Prof. Gang Li's lab includes transition-metal-catalyzed C–H bond activation reactions and small molecule activation. In C–H bond activation, the research is focused on site-selective C–H bond functionalizations of biologically important molecules using novel auxiliaries and catalysts, including auxiliaries for meta- and para-selective C–H activation of arenes. In small molecule activation, activation of carbon dioxide (CO₂) is studied with C–H bond activation to produce important carboxylic acid derivatives. The ultimate goal of the Li group is to develop catalytic reactions for building up molecular complexity in a rapid and atom-economical fashion.
