Anti-Tyrosinase Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Tyrosinase protein.
The TYR (tyrosinase) gene is mapped to human chromosome 11q14.3 and codes for a membrane glycoprotein, tyrosinase. It is ubiquitously expressed in plant and animal tissue.
Immunogen
The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human Tyrosinase.
Immunogen Range: 471-520
Biochem/physiol Actions
The encoded protein, tyrosinase, is involved in melanin production by catalyzing the oxidation of L-tyrosine and L- 3, 4-dihydroxyphenylalanine to form dopaquinone. TYR (tyrosinase) is associated with the development of neural crest cell into melanocytes. Biallelic mutations in the TYR gene results in an autosomal recessive disorder, oculocutaneous albinism type 1. Loss of tyrosinase activity contributes to the severity of this disorder, in which melanin is undetectable. Abnormal expression of the gene has been observed in atypical fibroxanthoma.
