General description
Leptin (Anti-Obesity Protein) is the protein product of the ob (obese) gene in mice and appears to be involved in appetite control. The ob gene is expressed in adipose tissue and is thought to regulate the body′s fat stores. Mice with the ob/ob genotype also develop a form of diabetes similar to type II (non-insulin dependent) diabetes. Mouse leptin is a 16 kDa protein containing 147 amino acid residues.
Product Source: E.coli
Physical form
Lyophilized from 0.1% TFA, no preservatives.
Storage and Stability
The lyophilized powder, though stable at room temperature, is best stored desiccated below 0°C for up to 12 months from date of receipt. After a quick spin, reconstitute the mouse leptin in sterile distilled water to a concentration of 1.0-5.0 mg/mL. After reconstitution maintain at -20°C in undiluted aliquots for up to six months.
Analysis Note
Specific Activity: GF050 has been shown to be biologically active in two different mouse obesity models, ob/ob and NZO. Both strains of mice were treated via intraperitoneal injection once daily at a dose of 5 μg leptin/gm of body weight for 14 days. Significant effects on body weight, food consumption, and plasma glucose levels were observed compared to saline-treated controls.
