General description

This polystyrene-based microparticle (size: 20 μm) size standard is ideal for profiling particle size distribution (PSD) of test samples.

Application

Used to standardize and monitor instrument particle size.
Also used:
  • to assess the effect of microplastics on zooplankton upon ingestion
  • to calibrate microfluidic device based on size measurements
  • in focused beam reflectance measurement (FBRM) based particle system characterization

Features and Benefits

  • suitable for routine instrument calibration checks, testing and corrections
  • available in 5 and 10 mL pack sizes as neat samples

Analysis Note

Für jede Charge werden die exakte Partikelgrösse und die Standardabweichung mit einer Genauigkeit von 0.01 μm unter Verwendung eines Coulter Multisizers bestimmt.

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. I wanted to couple antibodies on to Micro particles based on polystyrene (Cat No:74491) 20uM particles by Physical adsorption Pl let me know can this particles be used for passive adsorption of antibody on these PS particles

    1 answer
    1. Yes, antibodies can be adsorbed to the surface of these 20 µm polystyrene particles. However, this process occurs passively, in a nonspecific manner. For specific coupling, COOH-functionalized particle types are recommended.

  2. Dear Mr., Ms, I would like to know what is the best buffer to dilute homogeneously those PS beads (ref. 74491). Is it better to use DI water ? Phosphate Buffer Solution ? Is it necessary to add surfactant and if yes at which concentration ? Thank you.

    1 answer
    1. Microspheres are synthesized in water and should be stored in water. Deionized water is the best suspending medium, as high concentrations of ions may result in irreversible aggregation.

  3. 1. What is the molecular weight of this product? 2. How many particles are there per mL?

    1 answer
    1. This product is an aqueous suspension containing 10% solids in the form of polystyrene microparticles. The molecular weight of the starting material has not been determined. The particle count is not tested or reported on a lot-to-lot basis. However, historical information reveals an estimate of 2.0 - 2.4 x 10E7 particles/mL. This information is theoretical, based on concentration and particle size.

  4. We have this 5 mL of latex beads. I curious about how many beads in the bottle. It is important for our study. Thank you. Regards

    1 answer
    1. The number of beads per bottle is not determined.
