This kit is used for the detection of hippurate hydrolase, an enzyme produced by a number of pathogenic organisms. Hippurate is the substrate embedded into the test strips. Hippurate hydrolase produced by bacteria will hydrolyze the embedded hippurate in the test strip. One of the resulting by-products, glycine, reacts with the chromogen producing a blue/purple color, indicating a positive test. This is a qualitative test. Tests are limited to cultures taken from samples that have been incubated for at least 24 hours. Test zur Identifikation von Hippurathydrolaseaktivität in beta-haemolytischen Gruppe B Streptokokken, Gardnerella vaginalis, Campylobakter jejuni und anderen Mikroorganismen.
Der Test basiert auf der Hydrolyse von Natriumhippurat durch die Hippurathydrolase bzw. der Produktion von Benzoesäure und Glycin. Nach 24 h Inkubation reagiert das durch die Enzymreaktion entstandene Glycin mit Chromogen (Ninhydrin) zu einem blau-violetten Farbstoff.
