General description

Peptid YY (PYY) ist ein Hormon, das vom unteren Gastrointestinaltrakt freigesetzt wird und dessen zirkulierende Werte nach den Mahlzeiten in direktem Verhältnis zum Kaloriengehalt ansteigen. Es ist eines der wichtigsten physiologischen Signale zur Appetitzügelung und Reduzierung der Nahrungsaufnahme. Weitere Funktionen des PYY sind Hemmung der Magensäuresekretion, der gastrointestinalen Motilität und des Pankreas-Enzym-Outputs.
