Cell Culture Media Filters

Icon depicting a blue filtration tank and control unit surrounded by stylized representations of water molecules and filtration media particles.

Sterile filtration is used to protect upstream cell culture operations from contamination. Whether you need to reduce the risk of bacteria or mycoplasma contamination, our Millipore Express®, non-PFAS, cell culture media filters provide options for microorganism removal while enabling optimal cell growth and productivity and delivering the filter capacity and throughput performance you need for process economics.

Before selecting a filter, we recommend you perform a risk analysis to identify the level of bioburden control you need – a sterilizing filter or a sterilizing filter that also removes mycoplasma. Each of our filters will provide sterility assurance and give you confidence in your filtration process.  In addition, our filtration portfolio is supported by the Emprove® Program which provides the documentation you need to streamline risk assessments and simplify compliance.

STERILIZING CELL CULTURE MEDIA FILTERS

Millipore Express® SHC (Sterile, High Capacity) filters deliver extremely high filtration capacity for plugging cell culture media. The integrated 0.5 µm polyethersulfone (PES) membrane prefilter protects the 0.2 µm PES sterilizing membrane, maximizing filter capacity and improving filtration robustness.

  • Millipore Express® SHC filters provide high permeability, are easy to wet and integrity test, and offer broad chemical compatibility.
  • High-area capsule and cartridge formats maximize filtration efficiency without increasing footprint.

MYCOPLASMA REMOVAL FILTERS FOR CELL CULTURE MEDIA

Millipore Express® SHR filters (Sterile, High Retention) provide ≥ 7.0 log removal of mycoplasma and sterilizing-grade performance for upstream processes that need an additional level of security. The 0.1 µm mycoplasma retentive PES membrane provides high permeability and excellent microbial retention.

For more plugging cell culture media, our Millipore Express® SHRP filters contain an integrated 0.5 µm PES prefilter that protects the 0.1 µm mycoplasma retentive membrane, improving filter capacity and process robustness.

FORMATS FROM BENCH TO PRODUCTION SCALES

Our cell culture media filters offer:

  • OptiScale® formats for efficient screening and scaling, and cartridge and capsule formats that are 100% integrity tested during manufacturing.
  • High-area capsules and cartridge formats to maximize filtration efficiency without increasing footprint.
  • Autoclavable, presterilized or gamma-compatible formats, that can be integrated into Mobius® single-use assemblies.

Approximate filtration areas of capsule and cartridge filters. Refer to product specifications for complete information and accurate filtration areas for each product line. Read our technical article for additional information on different filter formats.

Opticap® capsules are autoclavable, gamma compatible or sterile except where noted.
*Sterile and gamma compatible filters only.

QUALITY STANDARDS AND DOCUMENTATION

All Millipore Express® filters are designed, developed, and manufactured in accordance with a Quality Management System approved by an accredited registering body to an ISO 9001 Quality Systems Standard, and are supported by a certificate of quality.

All Millipore Express® SHC, Millipore Express® SHR and Millipore Express® SHRP filters are supported by the Emprove® Program which provides three types of dossiers to support different stages of development and manufacturing operations such as qualification, risk assessment, and process optimization. The dossiers consolidate comprehensive product-specific testing data, quality statements, and regulatory information in a readily available format so you can move forward with confidence.
