General description

RPMI 1640 CompleteMedium is supplemented with 2mM L-Glutamine and 10% U.S.-origin fetal bovineserum (FBS). This sterile solution is convenient to culture a wide range ofcells that grow in suspension or as anchorage dependent. It can also be used infusion protocols and for growing hybrid cells. Roswell Park Memorial Institute(RPMI) 1640 medium can be used for culturing human normal and neoplasticleukocytes. It supports the growth of various cultured cells, like fresh humanlymphocytes in the 72-hour phytohemagglutinin (PHA) stimulation assay if theformulation is properly supplemented.

Application

RPMI 1640 CompleteMedium, with 2mM L-Glut and 10% FBS has been used to culture: Jurkatlymphocytes and human U937 monocyte-like cell line(1), HT-29 and SW480 (humancolon cancer cell line) cells(2), monocytes(3)

Tryptophan catabolism is a major metabolic pathway utilized by several professional and non-professional antigen presenting cells to maintain immunological tolerance. Here we report that 3-hydroxy-L-kynurenamine (3-HKA) is a biogenic amine produced via an alternative pathway of tryptophan metabolism. In vitro
