General description

Complement C3-depleted serum is a human serum that is depleted of complement component C3. It is prepared from serum that has been shown by certified tests to be negative for Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and antibodies to hepatitis C virus (HCV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-I), and HIV-II.

Application

Complement C3-Depleted Serum, Human has been used to study its effects on the α-secretase activity of umbilical cord blood serum (CBS).

Unit Definition

Classical Pathway Activity: One C3H50 unit measured by classical pathway activation is defined as the amount of C3 required to yield 50% lysis of 3 x 10⁷ EA when incubated in the presence of the recommended volume of C3-Dpl for 30 min at 37°C in a total reaction volume of 500 µl GVB++.

Physical form

In 150 mM NaCl, 50 mM sodium phosphate, pH 7.2.

Preparation Note

Prepared from serum that has been shown by certified tests to be negative for HBsAg and for antibodies to HCV, HIV-I, and HIV-II.

Reconstitution

Following initial thaw, aliquot and freeze (-70°C).
