Gene Information

human ... SEPTIN2(4735)

General description

Septin-2 belongs to the septin family of GTPases. Originally characterized as regulators of cytokinesis, septins were later implicated in other cellular processes. Recent studies show that septins have a broader role in microtubule-dependent processes, such as karyokinesis, exocytosis, and maintenance of cell shape. Many members of the septin family have been shown to colocalize or interact with the microtubule cytoskeleton, suggesting that these might be general properties of septins. Septin-2 is expressed in the brain and may be associated with Alzheimer′s disease.

Specificity

This antibody recognizes Septin-2.

Podosomes are compartmentalized actin-rich adhesions, defined by their ability to locally secrete proteases and remodel extracellular matrix. Matrix remodeling by endothelial podosomes facilitates invasion and thereby vessel formation. However, the mechanisms underlying endothelial podosome formation and function remain unclear. Here
