Gene Information

human ... BR44L(51660)

General description

MPC1 (mitochondrial pyruvate carrier 1) gene is mapped to human chromosome 6q27. MPC1 encodes a 12kDa, protein containing five exons and two membrane spanning α helixes. Anti-BRP44L Antibody detects endogenous levels of total BRP44L protein.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human BRP44L.

Immunogen Range: 11-60

Application

Anti-BRP44L antibody produced in rabbit has been used to check the effect of mitochondrial TOM70 (translocase of the outer membrane protein 70) on MPC1 (mitochondrial pyruvate carrier 1) expression.

Biochem/physiol Actions

MPC1 (mitochondrial pyruvate carrier 1) is a key player in pyruvate metabolism. It transports pyruvate into the inner mitochondrial matrix. Lowered MPC1 expression, elevates glycolysis due to a shift in metabolism to fatty acid oxidation. This accounts for the pathogenesis of cancer and other diseases. Downregulation of this gene is observed in colon adenocarcinoma.
