General description

This certified reference material (CRM) is produced and certified in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 17034. This CRM is traceable to primary material from an NMI, e.g. NIST or NMIJ.
Certified content by quantitative NMR incl. uncertainty and expiry date are given on the certificate.

Methabenzthiazuron is a broad-spectrum phenylurea herbicide that binds to the QB site of the D1 protein of the photosystem II complex and inhibits the photosynthetic electron transport. It is a selective herbicide, absorbed primarily through roots and to a lesser extent by leaves. It is used to control broad-leaved and grass weeds in cereals, legumes, maize, garlic, and onions.
According to the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 2006/302, methabenzthiazuron is not approved for use in the European Union (EU) as a plant protection agent, following the Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009.

Application

The certified reference material (CRM) is intended to be used as a calibrant for chromatography and other analytical techniques.
Methabenzthiazuron CRM may also be used in method development and validation to determine:
  • 275 pesticides and their metabolites in surface water samples by reversed-phase liquid chromatography (LC)-Orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) following their solid-phase extraction (SPE), using hydrophilic-lipophilic balanced polymeric sorbents (HLB)
  • 379 pesticides in human serum samples extracted by QuEChERS method using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
  • 34 of triazine, phenylurea, triazole, and neonicotinoid pesticides in five agricultural soil samples by liquid chromatography-high resolution quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF-MS)
  • 260 pesticides in human urine samples using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) with rapid switching between positive and negative electrospray ionization (ESI) modes
  • 250 pesticide residues extracted by QuEChERS method from 103 processed fruit samples using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS)
  • 327 multiclass pesticide and 17 veterinary drug residues in eight animal feed samples using liquid- and gas- chromatography combined with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS)
