Application

The enzyme plays a critical role in the recycling of inositol to phosphoinositides in the mammalian brain and participates in the phosphatidylinositol signaling pathway. It is inhibited non-competitively by Li+, which may be significant in the treatment of manic depression. The enzyme may help in identifying less toxic substitutes for lithium in manic depressive therapy.

Unit Definition

This study investigated the expression and tissue distribution of inositol monophosphatase (IMPA1) and characterized its role in salinity adaptation in the eel. The coding sequence of eel IMPA1 was determined and confirmed to be orthologous to the mammalian gene/enzyme by

The marine bacterium Vibrio parahaemolyticus causes gastroenteritis in humans and encodes the type III effector protein VPA0450, which contributes to host cell death caused by autophagy, cell rounding, and cell lysis. We found that VPA0450 is an inositol polyphosphate 5-phosphatase
