General description

Angiotensin II is a renin-angiotensin system (RAS) effector molecule, which binds to angiotensin II type-1 (AT1R) and angiotensin II type-2 (AT2R) receptors. The gene is located on human chromosome 3q24. Angiotensin II is mainly expressed in vessel walls, lung and kidney.

Application

[Asn1, Val5]-Angiotensin II has been used:
  • to study the effects of ACTH, serotonin, Ang II, carbachol and elevated [K+] on catecholamine and serotonin release
  • to induce cyclophilin D (CypD)–dependent mitochondrial vascular superoxide (O2. - ) production in hypertension
  • to increase the homocysteine-induced ER stress-inducible, ubiquitin-like domain member 1 (HERPUD1) protein level in HeLa cells

Biochem/physiol Actions

Angiotensin II functions as a vasoconstrictor and controls cardiovascular function. It maintains water-sodium homeostasis, modulates cellular proliferation and vascular remodelling of renin-angiotensin system. Angiotensin II has inflammatory effects.
Synthetic angiotensin agonist that is involved in the regulation of blood pressure, water consumption, and hydromineral balance in fish.

Angiotensin II (AngII), the principal effector of the Renin-Angiotensin System, is a pluripotent humoral agent whose biological actions include short-term modulations and long-term adaptations. In fish, short-term cardio-tropic effects of AngII are documented, but information on the role of AngII
