General description

4-Methylphenol is an isomer of the phenolic compound, named cresol. It can be formed via action of colonic bacteria on tyrosine and phenylalanine in human body. It can act like a an odorant and a component of human sweat, which can have the tendency to attract female Anopheles mosquitoes, the world′s most important vector of Plasmodium falciparum malaria.

Application

4-Methylphenol can be used in the preparation of toluene via hydrodeoxygenation in the presence of cobalt dispersed on molybdenum disulfide monolayers as catalyst.
