Description

General description

Esomeprazole is the (S)-isomer of omeprazole. It blocks the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme and lowers the release of hydrochloric acid by gastric parietal cells.[1] Esomeprazole is used for treating gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).[2]

Application

Esomeprazole magnesium hydrate has been used to induce intracellular acidification in an ATP12A-independent manner.[3]
