Application

Adenosine 5′-triphosphate disodium salt hydrate has been used:
  • to prepare adenosine triphosphate (ATP) standard solutions to determine ATP levels in various bacterial cultures[1]
  • bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDM) treatment[2]
  • as a preparation free of contaminating guanine nucleotides to study the binding effects of coatomer β subunit (β-COP)[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Adenosine 5′-triphosphate (ATP) is a central component of energy storage and metabolism in vivo.[4] ATP is used in many cellular processes, respiration, biosynthetic reactions, active transport, and motility.[5] ATP is a substrate of many kinases involved in cell signaling and of adenylate cyclase that produce the secondary messenger cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP).[6] ATP provides the metabolic energy to drive metabolic pumps.[5] It serves as a coenzyme in a wide array of enzymatic reactions.[7]

The coatomer is a cytosolic protein complex that reversibly associates with Golgi membranes and is implicated in modulating Golgi membrane transport. The association of beta-COP, a component of coatomer, with Golgi membranes is enhanced by guanosine 5'-[gamma-thio]triphosphate (GTP[gamma S]), a

Questions

  1. Can I dissolve this ATP in water and store it?

    1 answer
    1. This item can be solubilized in water at 50 mg/mL yielding a clear, colorless solution. Aqueous solutions of ATP are stable for months at -15C and or one week when stored at -0C as mentioned in the Product Information Sheet.
